Póvoa de Lanhoso Highschool visits Utopia

About 60 students, from the 9th, 11th and 12th grade of the professional courses of Póvoa de Lanhoso Highschool, are this Thursday visiting Utopia.

The main building, which already has all the tire walls built, is in the phase of placing the cans and filling the holes with a mixture of mortar, lime, sand an straw.

The students also had the opportunity to visit the small farm, consisting of a greenhouse, outdoor production area and pond (artificial lake).

The visit is the result of a protocol between Plako and the Póvoa de Lanhoso Highshool with the purpose of carrying out a set of inal course work by the finalist students of technical professional course of electronics, automation and computers. In this context, they will be responsible for all the automation of the building and greenhouse, with a view to optimizing the energy consumption of the whole structure.

Teachers Alcina Simões, Aurélio Correia, Celso Soares and Paula Henriques accompanied Moisés Campos (Plako’s representative) in an introduction of the whole project and construction process using tires filled with soil that ended with the students having the opportunity to watch the process of filling the walls with used soda cans.
